Gospel Changes

Passage: Romans 6:1-8:39
The gospel changes how you live. Sanctification is “becoming like Jesus” and becoming like Jesus takes change.
1) The gospel changes how we see sin. (vs. 6:1-5) Christ destroyed the reign of sin in our lives. God's grace is not a license to sin. When we take hold of salvation, it changes the way we see sin. Sin doesn’t stop when we start believing. In fact, Satan will keep throwing whatever he can at you to disrupt your relationship with God. Sin is a threat to the vibrancy of our relationship with God. Sin is the great relationship disrupter.
2) The gospel changes how you see yourself. (vs. 6:6-11) In Christ, we are a new creation, no longer bound by sin. We are now heirs to God, children of God. Believing who you are in Christ changes how you see yourself and how we live life.
3) The gospel changes the way you live. (vs. 6:12-14, 8:1-2) Our past, present, and future sin does not bring condemnation to us if we belong to Jesus. The Holy Spirit gives you the power to live out your faith.
Change is hard. Spiritual growth is hard. But when we receive the Holy Spirit – when we receive salvation – we are given the power to live out our faith. The gospel changes everything about you. Let the gospel change you and watch what happens!
