Stand Rightly

Passage: Romans 3:21-31

We stand rightly before God because of Jesus.

1) Our position before God can change. (vs. 3:21-26)  Justification is a declaration that Christ’s righteousness is now credited to us as our own righteousness.  We get Christ’s righteousness, but we also get something removed:  Our sin.   Redemption means we were bought back.  Propitiation can be defined simply as “wrath satisfied.”  Jesus didn’t die for you. Jesus died instead of you.

2) Our position with God changes through faith in Christ alone. (vs. 3:27-31) “Faith is believing that Christ is what he is said to be, and that he will do what he has promised to do, and then to expect this of him.” – Charles Spurgeon.  Faith is committing yourself to what you know about Jesus.  If we want to stand rightly with God, it comes through faith in Christ.  Our justification, our redemption, our propitiation, our forgiveness, our right standing all comes through faith in Christ. It all comes through faith in Christ ALONE!  It’s called the exclusivity of the gospel.  The gospel’s exclusivity is 100% inclusive.  Anyone can to come to God.  But everyone has to go through Jesus.

3) Our position with Christ brings blessings. (vs. 5:1-11)  Paul gives 4 blessings in chapter 5: 1) we have peace; 2) we can rejoice; 3) hope of salvation; 4) to fill our hearts with His love.  With Jesus, peace, joy, hope, and love are more than just emotions.  With Jesus, those things we know to be true.  In life, we won’t feel peace at times, but we know peace.  We won’t feel hope, but we know hope.  When we know God’s truth, we can live in God’s truth, even when the world changes the way we feel.
