Each Other

Passage: Philippians 2:1-11

Watch

We need to need each other.

1) We need each other to fight for unity. (vs. 1-4)  What’s the number one way that Satan loves to destroy those areas of our life?  DIVISION.  Satan simply wants you to start seeing your spouse, your family member, or your fellow church member as the enemy.  When Satan is no longer the enemy, he wins.  Even churches have fallen to this tactic over and over again.  Unity is both a gift from the Holy Spirit and empowered by the Holy Spirit.  Unity is blessing to be enjoyed by the church.  There should be this attitude in the church that says, “We are in this struggle together. I’m not going to put myself first. I’m going to find joy by making others joyful.”  I don’t want you to miss that:  Find joy by making others joyful!  Let TCSH be a place where we fight for unity.

2) We need each other to fix our eyes on Jesus. (vs. 5-8)  How do we keep unity at TCSH?  We need each other to fix our eyes on Jesus.  Jesus is the ultimate example of humility.  And our unity is dependent on our humility.  If our unity is dependent on our humility, then we have to look to the Jesus.  Jesus wasn’t just a man, just a teacher, just a prophet.  Jesus is God.  Jesus had a right because He is God.  He had every right to stay in heaven.  Jesus gave up his divine privileges.  Jesus put aside His rightfully deserved divine glory for us.  He took on the humble position of a slave.  Jesus put Himself in a position where the Creator would serve the creation.  Jesus also took on the form of man.  The Creator became part of creation.  Jesus, while still fully God, also became fully man.  Jesus did this to save us.  Jesus willingly went to die on the cross.  The only man that would never do anything wrong would receive the greatest punishment.

3) The world needs us to need each other. (vs. 9-11)  We need each other. We need to have unity.  How do we do that? By having humility.  Because Jesus was the greatest example of humility and did what we couldn’t do, Jesus is going to places in the highest honor.  Jesus’ humiliation has led to His exaltation.  One day, every person that ever existed will acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord.  There are some that will bow with the joy and excitement.  There are some that will bow with despair.  When individual humility leads to collective unity, we share the hope of Jesus. And there’s so much joy in sharing the hope of Jesus.  The world needs us to need each other.

Let’s all come together in unity with humility so that the watching world will see Jesus.

See Jesus. Model Jesus. Share Jesus.  And in the process, we’ll find a lot of joy!
